You want me to eat bacteria??

Actually, Yes, I do want you to eat bacteria. Let me explain.

Your gut consists of a variety of bacteria and microorganisms that help maintain the gastrointestinal balance. Probiotics can enhance the health of the gut by overtaking the “bad” bacteria. The more friendly bacteria you have in your gut the more beneficial to you.

Benefits associated with probiotics include.

  • Helps strengthen the immune system
  • Reduces allergies, colds and flu
  • Assists with digestion
  • Probiotics attack and destroy yeast growth (candida)
  • Improved skin conditions from eczema and psoriasis
  • Potential weight loss
  • Weight loss due to better digestion
  • Irritable bowel syndrome

The word probiotic come from the Latin pro –meaning “for” and Greek word bioticmeaning “for life.”

In order for probiotic to work they must be “live” and must be able to survive the stomach and intestine acid in order to reap the benefits.

Many years ago, humans received their bacteria via the food in their diet. This was long before the current over processed food took over as a mainstay in the “standard American diet”.

Probiotics are found in fermented foods, yogurt, miso, sourdough bread, kefir, kombucha, and Sauerkraut. However, these are generally not the most popular foods in a diet. When yogurt is filled with sugar, the benefits are lost.

The popularity of probiotic has increased over the last several years to help maintain good digestive health and prevent disease. Some research is being done on the effects of probiotics on infections, tooth decay, skin conditions and vaginal infections.

What do you need to look for in a probiotic?

The probiotic must be live to survive the gut bacteria,

  • Find a probiotic that is live, can survive the gut bacteria,
  • has a blend of different strains including Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium strains, 25 Billion CFUs per capsule, is non-GMO,
  • made in USA
  • doesn’t contain things you don’t need like artificial colors, flavors, sugars and preservatives.

Keep in mind,  probiotics may take a while to process and get the gut balance in check depending on your diet and lifestyle. You might start seeing results immediately, or it may take a month but changes are occurring for the benefit of your gut health.

Until next time-

To your thriving life, health and happiness!
